I am so privileged and honored to have had the opportunity to have my first workshop on Photo Psychology 2.24.15 at {hive-workshops} in Westport of Kansas City, MO. So many to thank that made it happen, and incredible sponsors with super cool giveaways. Melissa Slater, founder of {hive-workshops}, was the backbone to making this all happen. My old college buddy, Ashley Elwell from Three Three Photography, to grace us with the awesome images you see below. And the amazing list of sponsors (listed below) that were so very generous to donate awesome prizes to the “creatives”/students. : ) A Huge Thanks to All that came, listened, and supported what I believe to be very important to photographers in our industry today: Photo Psychology! Kansas City has an incredibly awesome photographer’s community that I am proud to be apart of. Thank you again to each of you that came and made it all possible. The Hive Workshops did a great job at recapping my presentation on their blog HERE. I encourage you to have a look. : ) As you will see, we did a fun Polaroid activity (with Impossible-Project film) to connect with each other! ; ) Oh, and played with Silly Putty as they listened. xx
Ultimately, I believe as a photographer we are responsible for telling the truth about our client’s story. As we tell their story, we inevitably give apart of ourselves and our perspective to fully reveal what we see of who they are with true authenticity. Therefore, as a photographer, we must know OUR own story! This requires a lot of understanding of ourself and taking care of ourself. Rest and boundaries are important when focusing on our personal goals. I shared “my story” and how I have come to where I am today of having been in social services over a span of a decade, and as a professional photographer for the past six years. I shared about my personal growth as I am in my fourth year as a PhD student in psychology, and my current research for my dissertation is on how therapeutic photography can help children who have experienced the trauma of sexual abuse. I also talked about client relations as a photographer, practical tools to form that bond, and how to captivate the true essence of your client’s personality to tell their story. I presented practical ideas on how to connect with your client before and after their shoot. Everyone has a story, and we as photographers are in a position not to take lightly when passing on the images for generations to come. There was so much more to the workshop and with such great people! I hope to have more workshops in the future. If you are interested in joining sometime, please comment below what city you’d like to have it in (or email me: j@johnnabrynn.com). I do hope to return to {hive-workshops}, so if you are in the KC area, definitely check them out! Thank you ALL so much for your support!
