In celebration of Johnna Brynn Photography’s 4th anniversary as of 3.3.13, I’d like to present to you a new type of photo session I will now offer called Lifestory.

As I study for my PhD in psychology, I took a class a few months ago on personality psychology and learned so many theories that parallel to the act of photography. In the psychology field, “life stories are an internalized and evolving narrative of the self that integrates the reconstructed past, perceived present, and anticipated future. Many people construct life stories to provide their lives with some semblance of unity, purpose, and meaning” (McAdams, 2009). So if a life story is reflective of a narrative identity, then I believe a powerful form of telling your story is through images. Life stories are a “mental structure of pattern for putting a full life into story form” and I’d like to help you and your family express your thoughts, actions, and personalities through images for your next generations to see.

What is a lifestory photo session?
Lifestory sessions are a unique 6-8hr session encompassing real-life moments of your immediate family in your home and around town. The documentary and photojournalistic style will narrate your individual personalities to tell a beautiful family story.

To launch my new Lifestory sessions, I will be giving one away to someone that would like their story to be heard.
Please participate in this giveaway by completing the three following actions and reading the important details below. Thank you!

1) “Like” Johnna Brynn Photography facebook fanpage.

2) “Share” at least two of the following on FB, Twitter or Instagram: Johnna Brynn Photography facebook fanpage, link to this blog post, or image in this post (IG hashtag #jbpgiveaway); and comment below in this post with your links.

3) Tell me your story that needs to be heard. (email to: j@johnnabrynn.com)

Anyone around the world is eligible (you never know where I’ll fly to next). No age requirement (so, yes, your 12 yr-old can submit his or her story). The winner and their immediate family will be involved in the lifestory session. Submission Deadline: 4.4.13. Winner Announced: 4.10.13. The Lifestory session giveaway will include 6-8hr session, all medium resolution digital images (print up to 8×10), and online gallery for one month. I am looking for unique, vulnerable and honest stories that reflect joy, pain, victory, hardship, laughter and love. Winner (or guardian of winner) will need to be willing to sign agreement form which allows me to utilize the images online and/or in print. This offer not valid with any other offer and the session must take place in 2013. Expires 12.31.13.

*A major initial inspiration of Lifestory sessions for me was exhibited by a fellow photographer in Australia that has blasted our industry with her zest and love for life and picture taking, Christine Pobke. You can check out her amazing Lifestory sessions on her site HERE.
